Become a Digital Skills Volunteer

Help change the way someone sees the digital world.

We’re looking for friendly, patient volunteers to support people with vision impairment to build confidence using digital devices.

Our Digital Skills Volunteers will attend drop-in sessions or 1:1 meetings and will support vision-impaired learners to use their smartphones and tablets and to make the most of existing accessibility features and apps.

There is so much that we can do with technology these days and this is a wonderful chance to make a real difference to improve people’s day to day lives, to empower them, encourage independence, and reduce isolation.

This role involves an initial training programme and then each digital skills session will run for approximately 2-3 hours.

What you'll do:

  • Help people learn how to use smartphones, tablets, laptops
  • Support with apps like Seeing AI, zoom features, screen readers and more
  • Offer practical guidance in our hubs, libraries, and/or coffee mornings
  • Make a life-changing difference by enabling independence

What we provide:

  • Full training (no previous experience needed)
  • Ongoing support from our team
  • A welcoming, supportive environment
  • Travel expenses reimbursed

If you are reasonably tech savvy and would like to get involved, please do get in touch with the volunteer team. You do not need to be an expert to get involved – anyone with a basic knowledge of Apple or Android, a willingness to learn and problem solve, and a patient approach to helping will make a brilliant contribution to the team.

Interested? Email [email protected].
