People living with sight loss in and around Swaffham are being given the chance to try carpet bowls, with two free taster sessions being offered by sight loss charity Vision Norfolk.
The sessions, on Monday 29th June and Monday 27th July, take place at the Swaffham Community Centre on Campingland in the town, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. They are open to people of all ages, no matter what their degree of sight loss.
The carpet bowls tasters are part of the charity’s extensive programme of leisure and sporting activities, which are designed to help counter the social isolation which can result from sight loss.
“Our leisure programme covers a huge range of activities, including many which some might be surprised that vision impaired people are able to tackle, including archery, cycling, book clubs (using audiobooks) and boccia,” said Penny Whitby, Vision Norfolk’s West Norfolk hub co-ordinator.
“The aim is to encourage people to try new things, to show them that sight loss doesn’t need to stand in the way of leading an active and fulfilled life, and to provide the vital social contact which is so important for people living with sight loss.”
People are welcome simply to turn up at the taster sessions on either or both dates. Further details are available by contacting the Vision Norfolk West Norfolk hub on 01553 660808 or at [email protected].
