Brownies Easter Fair Raises £240 For Norfolk’s Sight Loss Charity

A group of Norfolk Brownies are helping vision impaired people in the county leading independent lives, after their Easter Fair raised £240 for sight loss charity Vision Norfolk.

The 1st Corpusty and Saxthorpe Brownie pack held the fair as part of their Charities badge, fundraising by selling papier-mâché bowls, bookmarks and painted flowerpots, as well as by baking cakes, selling used books and toys, and organising games and a raffle.

Vision Norfolk’s children, young people and families co-ordinator Josh Bartholomew visited the pack to give a talk on the charity’s work, and to accept a cheque from the young fundraisers.

The Brownies chose to support Vision Norfolk, which supports people of all ages living with sight loss right across the county, after one of the members’ mother was recently helped by the charity.

Mr Bartholomew said, “We rely totally on the generosity of local people to provide the huge range of services to vision impaired people in Norfolk, and so it is great to see such a big effort made by these great young people.

“As I was able to explain to the girls, sight loss can affect people at any age.  I outlined our programme of activities and support for vision impaired young people and their families, as well as the help we provide for adults of all ages.

“It is really important that young people understand the need to support people less fortunate than themselves, and the practical nature of the Brownies Charites badge is a very positive way of helping them appreciate this.”
