Free ‘Tea And Tech’ Sessions Aim To Help People Living With Sight Loss In Great Yarmouth Master Technology

People living with sight loss in the Great Yarmouth area are being invited to a special ‘Tea and Tech’ session to help them get to grips with new technology which could help them live more independently.

Led by friendly tech-savvy volunteers, the sessions are aimed at both those who are just getting starting with technology and those who want to feel more confident using their smartphones or tablets.

The event takes place at Vision Norfolk’s Great Yarmouth hub on Hall Quay in the town on Monday 9th February, from 10am-12pm.  Attendance is free, and no advance booking is necessary.

Attendees are invited to bring their devices with them, and there will be the opportunity for one-to-one sessions during which they can raise any issue relating to mobile phone or tablet usage.

Support and advice is available for iPads and iPhones, Samsung phones and tablets; Synapptic phones and tablets; and BlindShell phones.

The session is part of Vision Norfolk’s county-wide Digital Technology for People with Vision Impairment in Norfolk project, a £100,000 initiative funded by the Department of Science Innovation and Technology’s Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund, which aims to help people with sight loss to gain confidence, independence, and connection through digital technology.

“Technology, and in particular smartphones and tablets, have been a game-changer for people living with sight loss,” said Barbara Dunn, deputy chief executive of Vision Norfolk.

“Our initiative is aimed at helping people who might not be so confident with technology to make the most of this, helping them to live more independent lives.”

The ‘Tea and Tech’ session takes place on Monday 9th February from 10am-12pm at Vision Norfolk’s Great Yarmouth hub on Hall Quay.  The presentation is free to attend; no prior booking is necessary – you can drop in at any time during the two hours.  Tea and coffee will be provided.
