New Weekly Free Drop-In Technology Sessions Aimed At Supporting People Living With Sight Loss

A new programme of weekly technology drop-in sessions has been launched in Norwich to help people living with sight loss get to grips with digital technology.

Sight loss charity Vision Norfolk is running the special two-hour sessions every Thursday morning at its Bradbury Activity Centre at Beckham Place, off Edward Street, offering expert help with a range of devices, including iPads and iPhones, Samsung phones and tablets, Synapptic phones and tablets, and BlindShell phones.

The aim of the sessions is to support people with sight loss to make the most of technology, which offers huge accessibility advantages for vision impaired people.

The new sessions have been made possible thanks to new funding, as part of the charity’s Digital Inclusion Project.  The sessions are being delivered by specially-trained volunteers.

“Whether you are brand new to technology or want to build your confidence with accessibility features, these free drop-in sessions will really help people living with sight loss to over come any barriers they may have to using technology, and to make the most of the excellent accessibility features which such devices can offer,” said Barbara Dunn, services manager and deputy chief executive at Vision Norfolk.

The Accessible Technology drop-in sessions take place every Thursday morning, starting on 15th January, from 10am-12pm, at the Bradbury Activity Centre, Beckham Place, Norwich, NR3 3DZ.  No appointment is needed – those wishing to take part can just turn up.

Last month Vision Norfolk announced it had been awarded almost £100,000 from the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology’s Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund to help people with sight loss to gain confidence, independence, and connection through digital technology.
