Two of the UK’s leading assistive technology firms are coming together to mount a special day-long demonstration in Norwich of the latest technology to help people living with sight loss lead independent lives, as part of a county-wide project being run by sight loss charity Vision Norfolk to promote assistive technology for the vision impaired.
Representatives from Humanware and Optelec will be on hand on Monday 30th March from 10.30am to 3pm at Vision Norfolk’s Norwich Hub in Edward Street to explain and demonstrate a wide range of assistive technology, with visitors having the opportunity to try it for themselves.
Humanware is a global leader in assistive technology, designing and manufacturing a wide range of technology for people living with sight loss, including magnifiers, audio assistants, Braille devices, GPS-enabled digital orientation and mobility assistants, and reading machines.
Optelec provides a broad spectrum of technological solutions for vision impaired people, including optical magnifiers and lighting, video magnifiers, text to speech devices, braille displays, and specialist computer software
The sessions are part of Vision Norfolk’s county-wide Digital Technology for People with Vision Impairment in Norfolk project, a £100,000 initiative funded by the Department of Science Innovation and Technology’s Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund, which aims to help people with sight loss to gain confidence, independence, and connection through digital technology.
“This kind of technology can be a real game-changer when it comes to helping people living with sight loss to lead independent lives,” said Barbara Dunn, services manager and deputy chief executive at Vision Norfolk.
“Our initiative is aimed at helping people who might not be so confident with technology to make the most of this, helping them to live more independent lives.”
The assistive technology demonstration takes place on Monday 30th March from 10.30am-3pm at Vision Norfolk’s Norwich hub in Edward Street. The session is free to attend; no prior booking is necessary. Tea and coffee will be provided. For more details call Vision Norfolk on 01603 573000 ext 504 or email [email protected].
