Greenhouse Boost For Norwich Gardening Group For People With Sight Loss

A gardening group for people with sight loss in Norwich is celebrating the donation of a new greenhouse to support its growing allotment project.

The group, organised by sight loss charity Vision Norfolk, meets regularly to enjoy gardening and social activities in an accessible outdoor setting.  Earlier this year, with support from Norfolk Community Foundation’s Greening Our Communities Fund, members created their own allotment in the city.

Thanks to continued funding support, the group now has a greenhouse at the charity’s Norwich Community Hub, allowing members to grow plants from seed throughout the year.

“Our gardening group gives people of all ages with sight loss the chance to enjoy gardening in a supportive and inclusive environment,” said Mark Smith, leisure activities co-ordinator at Vision Norfolk’s Norwich hub.

“Gardening helps improve physical and mental wellbeing, build confidence and reduce isolation, while bringing people together through a shared activity.

“The greenhouse will help us grow more plants from seed and develop the allotment further.”

Vision Norfolk’s free gardening sessions are open to anyone living with sight loss, from experienced gardeners to complete beginners.  The next session takes place on Friday 29th  May.
