The last chance this year to visit a renowned city centre garden this summer takes place on Sunday 26th July, when the final open day at the Bishop’s Garden in Norwich takes place.
The occasion will see a summer garden party to raise money for sight loss charity Vision Norfolk, thanks to the kind invitation of the Bishop of Norwich.
The stunning four acre paradise includes flower-filled borders, towering exotic plants, productive fruit vegetable and herb gardens, a woodland walk, and a wildflower labyrinth and orchard where the bishop’s bees forage.
Peaceful paths connect four acres of sunny lawns and tree-shaded dells inside ancient walls. There have been gardens here for more than nine centuries and visitors can see a 400-year-old pear tree, a 700-year-old ruin and a hebe grown from a cutting taken from Queen Victoria’s wedding bouquet. A magnificent view of the north side of Norwich Cathedral can only be seen from the garden.
As well as the chance to see the gardens, the event will see entertainment – including Vision Norfolk’s own choir made up of vision impaired singers and volunteers – along with tea and cakes and a plant stall.
The garden will be open from 1pm – 4.30pm, with admission costing £5 (children and wheelchairs users free). Assistance dogs only are admitted.
