A special event showcasing technology which allows people living with sight loss to live independently in their own homes is taking place in King’s Lynn later this month.
Norfolk’s sight loss charity Vision Norfolk has partnered with HumanWare, which specialises in assistive technology for vision impaired people, for the event, which takes place on Tuesday 22nd July at Vision Norfolk’s King’s Lynn hub in Thoresby College on Queen Street.
Alongside a range of magnifiers and other aids, the event will showcase HumanWare’s AI-driven Hark system, which can read handwriting, provide descriptions of images, and even scan barcodes and read out the name and contents of what is in the tin or package.
“The ability to live independently in their own home is the number one priority for so many people living with sight loss,” said Vision Norfolk’s King’s Lynn hub co-ordinator Penny Whitby.
“Today there is so much technology to help vision impaired people do just that, and we are very excited that HumanWare will be demonstrating their Hark AI system, which harnesses the power of AI to help people living with sight loss to be more independent.
“We hope that anyone living with sight loss, or who has a family member who is vision impaired, will take the opportunity to come and find out how technology can really enhance lives and allow independent living.”
The Vision Norfolk/HumanWare Showcase takes place at Vision Norfolk’s King’s Lynn hub in Thoresby College on Queen Street on Tuesday 22nd July from 10.30am.
