The CEA card is a scheme run by the UK Cinema Association and its members to make visiting the cinema a more inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone. Holding a CEA card entitles you to be accompanied by someone, free of charge, when you purchase a full price ticket to visit a participating cinema. The person accompanying you must be able to provide you appropriate support, for example assistance in moving around the venue, evacuating in an emergency, or purchasing refreshments. Cards are accepted at about 90% of UK cinemas. You can ask for reasonable adjustments directly from any cinema regardless of whether you have a CEA card.
Eligibility
To apply for a CEA card you must require assistance in cinemas because of the effect of your disability.
There are three ways to prove your eligibility.
- Firstly, you can provide evidence that you are registered as sight impaired, or severely sight impaired.
- Alternatively, you can use evidence of receiving support payments including PIP, DLA, AA, ADP or AFIP.
- If you’re not able to provide any of this evidence, you can explain your situation on your application and the UK Cinema Association will consider your eligibility on an individual basis.
Children above the age of 5 can also apply for a CEA card but the application must be completed by a parent or guardian.
Apply
Applications can be completed either online or by post.
You will need to provide:
- Proof of eligibility
- A photo
- And a payment of £6.50.
Digital or printed photocopies of documents are accepted and someone else can help you with your application, or apply on your behalf, if that would be useful.

The card lasts for a period of 1 year after which you will need to complete another application including the £6.50 fee. This fee helps to cover a number of costs in running the scheme, such as maintaining the website, processing applications and producing the card.
