Support For Families

Sight loss doesn’t just affect the child, it has a profound effect on those around them. At Vision Norfolk, we are here to support the whole family.

When a child is registered with sight loss or vision impairment, it is can be a worrying and confusing time, and takes some time to adjust to. We know it’s easy to get caught up in looking after your child, but it is important to look after your own wellbeing too, as it can feel lonely and isolating.

We are here to give emotional and practical support to you and your family. We know that consistent and informed support for the whole family, including grandparents, brothers and sisters, is invaluable for parents of a child with a vision impairment.

We recognise the importance of bringing families together, creating a valuable support network for one another. Talking to other parents and carers is a great way to get support, information, advice and to learn. We also encourage families to get involved in the activities, whether this is siblings, parents, carers or any other family members.

We respond to the needs of each individual family offering a non-prescriptive service.

Support may include:

  • Support with key meetings with professional bodies
  • Support with access to benefits and grants
  • Signposting to other relevant agencies
  • Assisting with Education, Health and Care Plan applications
  • Emotional support for the whole family, including home visits
